The state is getting $1 million from Kapolei Development Co. for construction of the long-awaited H-1 Freeway Kapolei interchange.
The company, the largest landowner and master developer of Kapolei, is also donating 7.8 acres to make way for the interchange, which will feed Kamokila Boulevard into H-1 from Wakea Street in an area between the Kapolei Theaters and the Kapolei Zippy's that was formerly a bus depot.
The new interchange is expected to provide relief to the often-clogged Makakilo-Kapolei interchange.
Construction is expected to begin in summer 2008.
