Kaheaku-Enhada still ecstatic over upset

Hawai'i-boy Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada will go down in the record books as part of one of many remarkable stories in this topsy-turvy college football season.
Kaheaku-Enhada, a junior quarterback from Kapolei, led Navy to a 46-44 triple overtime win over Notre Dame Saturday to break a 43-game losing streak against the Irish.
"After the game I was in awe," Kaheaku-Enhada said in an e-mail. "I really couldn't believe we did it. All I remember is everybody going crazy."
Kaheaku-Enhada threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Campbell on the first play of the third overtime and hit Campbell again for the two-point conversion for a 46-38 advantage.
"I can honestly say that after I made those completions and went to the sideline, I kind of just stood there and said to myself, 'Did I really just do that?' " he said. "It was unreal."
After Notre Dame answered with a touchdown run, a pass interference call on Navy on the Irish's two-point conversion gave them another shot to tie. But Navy stuffed Notre Dame's run attempt short of the end zone to seal the win.
"I couldn't believe that flag was thrown," Kaheaku-Enhada said. "I thought it was a really clean pass break-up, but I guess the ref thought otherwise. I was mad, but at the same time the pressure was still on the Notre Dame offense to score."
For the game, Kaheaku-Enhada rushed 20 times for 70 yards. He completed 6 of 8 passes for 81 yards.
"I think it feels great to break the streak," he said. "Beating Notre Dame was one of our top goals coming into the season and being able to complete one of our goals is a good thing."

California sophomore defensive end Tyson Alualu (Saint Louis '05 of Honolulu) had four tackles in a 20-17 win over Washington Saturday.
Oregon State junior safety Al Afalava (Kahuku '05 of La'ie) had six tackles in a 24-3 loss at Southern California Saturday.
Colorado senior linebacker Jordon Dizon (Waimea '04), who was named a quarterfinalist for the Lott Trophy, had nine tackles, including three for losses with one sack, in a 55-10 loss to Missouri Saturday. Dizon leads the nation with 8.5 solo tackles per game and fifth with 11.9 tackles per game.
New Mexico State junior linebacker La'Auli Fonoti (Kahuku '04 of Kahuku) had seven tackles and a pass break up that led to an interception in a 40-38 loss to Nevada Friday.
Weber State (Ogden, Utah) freshman quarterback Cameron Higgins (Saint Louis '06 of Honolulu) completed 21 of 31 pass attempts for 432 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-37 win over Idaho State (Pocatello, Idaho) Saturday.
Chapman (Orange, Calif.) junior defensive back Chris Shiramizu (Punahou '04 of Kaimuki) intercepted two passes, broke up another, forced and recovered a fumble with three tackles in a 21-14 loss to Occidental (Los Angeles) Saturday.
Saddleback College (Mission Viejo, Calif.) freshman running back Micah Abreu-Laybon (Leilehua '07 of Wahiawa) rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries in a 35-14 win over Santa Ana. He also returned three kickoffs for 112 yards.
CROSS COUNTRY
Willamette (Salem, Ore.) graduate student Carly Killam (Punahou '03 of Kailua) ran a personal best 22:27.46 to finish 13th at the Northwest Conference Championships on Oct. 27. Killam, whose time is eighth fastest in the 6K in school history, was named second-team All-NWC. The Bearcats won their sixth consecutive conference title.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Washington sophomore libero Tamari Miyashiro (Kalani '05 of Honolulu) had 10 digs in a sweep of Arizona Thursday and 11 digs in a sweep of Arizona State Friday. The No. 4 Huskies (22-1) host No. 5 Stanford tomorrow and No. 7 California Friday. The Golden Bears handed Washington its only loss of the season back on Oct. 11.
Utah State senior outside hitter Monarisa Ale (Kahuku '04 of Kahuku) had 17 kills against five errors on 34 attempts for a .353 hitting percentage in a four-game win over rival Utah last week. Ale had 11 kills and 16 digs in Monday's four-game loss to Idaho. The Aggies (15-12, 9-5 Western Athletic Conference) host Nevada tomorrow before making the trip to No. 10 Hawai'i in the WAC regular-season finale for both teams Sunday.
San Jose State sophomore libero Kristal Tsukano (Kamehameha '05 of Honolulu) had 13 digs in a four-game win over Fresno State Thursday. Freshman outside hitter Brianna Amian (Moanalua '07 of Honolulu) added eight kills. Tsukano had a match-high 30 digs in Saturday's five-game loss at Nevada and Amian had 11 kills.
Freshman outside hitter Kylie Harrington (St. Francis '07 of Honolulu) had 11 kills for the Wolf Pack.
Fairfield (Conn.) senior outside hitter Lindsey Lee (St. Joseph '04 of Hilo) broke the Stags' career digs record in a sweep of Manhattan (New York City) Sunday. Lee had 13 digs, nine kills and two aces in the match. She now has 1,623 career digs and is third in career kills with 1,387. Senior setter Ashley Hanohano (St. Joseph '04 of Hilo) added 15 assists, two kills and four aces and senior outside hitter Jazmin Pa'akaula (St. Joseph '04 of Hilo), who was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, had a team-high 25 digs and an ace. She is third in career digs (1,500), ninth in career kills (1,034) and seventh in career aces (126).
St. Mary's (Moraga, Calif.) freshman setter Kapua Kamana'o ('Iolani '07 of Honolulu) had 34 assists, six digs and three aces in a three-game loss to San Diego Thursday and 63 assists with two aces and 11 kills in a four-game win over San Francisco Saturday.
Cal State East Bay (Hayward, Calif.) senior setter Alyssa Chang (Maryknoll '04 of Honolulu) had 44 assists and nine digs in a five-game win over Menlo (Atherton, Calif.) last Wednesday. The Pioneers concluded the regular season at 28-4 and are ranked 10th in this week's AVCA Division III Coaches' Poll. Cal State East Bay is hosting the West Regional tomorrow through Saturday and meets Nebraska Wesleyan (17-11) in its opening match.
Menlo senior libero Christa Hewett (Kamehameha '04 of Pearl City) tied her career high with 50 digs. Freshman outside hitter Shaleia Auld (Mililani '07 of Honolulu) had 13 kills and seven digs, senior outside hitter Christi Haia (Sacred Hearts '04 of Waimanalo) added 14 digs and eight kills, and freshman setter LaRisa Parker (Roosevelt '07 of Honolulu) had 48 assists with seven digs for the Oaks.
Hewitt had 27 digs in a sweep of William Jessup (Rocklin, Calif.) Friday. Parker had 26 assists and Haia added 11 kills. Menlo (13-10) concludes its regular season tomorrow against Dominican (San Rafael, Calif.).
Pacific University (Forest Grove, Ore.) senior setter Anela Iseke (Kamehameha '04 of Hau'ula) logged a double-double in both weekend matches for the Boxers. Iseke, who was named first-team All-Northwest Conference Monday, had 30 assists with 11 digs in a sweep of Willamette Friday and 28 assists with 28 digs in a three-game loss to Pacific Lutheran Saturday. Pacific concluded the season at 14-9, 9-7 in the NWC. It is the most wins for the Boxers in a season since 1996 and first winning season since 1994. Pacific Lutheran coach Kevin Aoki, a 1980 'Iolani graduate, was named NWC Coach of the Year.
College of Southern Idaho (Twin Falls, Idaho) sophomore setter Lesliann Aki (Kamehameha '06 of Honolulu) had 18 assists in a sweep of Colorado Northwestern Friday in the opening round of the Region 18A Tournament. Sophomore libero Chanelle Esteban (Kaiser 06 of Hawai'i Kai) had 11 digs for the Golden Eagles, who beat North Idaho in four games Saturday for the Region 18A Championship. Esteban had a team-high 17 digs in the win. North Idaho sophomore outside hitter Amanda Misa (Waipahu '06 of Waipahu) led the Cardinals with 15 kills. Southern Idaho, which has produced 29 All-Americans, including 2005 AVCA Player of the Year Aneli Cubi-Otineru, will try for its ninth national title at the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament Nov. 14-17 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
MEN'S SOCCER
Gonzaga (Spokane, Wash.) senior goalkeeper Vito Higgins (Pac-Five/Academy of the Pacific '03 of Kailua) made four saves in a 0-0 tie against St. Mary's Sunday. Two of the shots on goal were by Gaels' junior midfielder Justin Kim (Mililani '04 of Mililani).
Pacific University sophomore midfielder Kevin Fujimoto (Kalani '06 of Honolulu) scored his first goal of the season in the 18th minute of a 3-0 shutout of Willamette Friday. Senior goalkeeper Chris Caswell (Pearl City '04 of Pearl City) did not allow a goal in 45 minutes.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Azusa Pacific (Azusa, Calif.) junior midfielder Sarah Yoro (Mililani '05 of Mililani) scored two goals in a 5-1 win over Westmont (Santa Barbara, Calif.) last Wednesday in the NAIA West Regionals. Yoro also scored on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute of a 2-1 win over Cal State San Marcos Friday. Azusa Pacific advanced to the NAIA Championship, Nov. 14-20 at Daytona Beach, Fla., with a 4-1 win over California Baptist (Riverside, Calif.) yesterday.
Pacific University freshman forward Ashley Kanda (Castle '07 of Kane'ohe) scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime, to help the Boxers upset then-No. 4 Puget Sound, 3-2. Kanda's goal came off a corner kick from her twin sister, Lauren Kanda (Castle '07 of Kane'ohe), who scored in the 29th minute.
MEN'S GOLF
Oregon freshman Sean Maekawa (Honoka'a '07 of Pa'auilo) is in fourth place heading into today's final round of the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif. Maekawa followed up Monday's opening round of 69 with a 67 yesterday at the par-72 Brookside Country Club. Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen is leading at 8-under-par 133, three strokes ahead of Maekawa.
WOMEN'S GOLF
Idaho senior Kelly Nakashima (Baldwin '04 of Wailuku) was named Western Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Month. Nakashima finished in a tie for 14th at the Heather Farr Invitational, third at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate and tied for 41st at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown in October. She had a 74.3 stroke average over her nine rounds.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Whitworth (Spokane, Wash.) junior Quinton Darling (Moanalua '05 of Honolulu) swam the anchor leg for the winning Pirates in the 400-yard medley relay (3:49.84) Friday. Darling was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.99). Pacific freshman Nicole Miyahira (Baldwin '07 of Kihei) was third in the 50-yard freestyle (28.00) and sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:35.29). Boxers' junior Wyeth Yogi (Kalani '05 of Honolulu) was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:40.22), fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:33.23) and sixth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:27.99). The Whitworth men beat Pacific, 103-57. The women also won, 135-46.
Darling won the 400-yard individual medley (4:19.22) in Saturday's meet against Linfield. He also placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:42.39) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:19.44). Linfield sophomore Yusuke Kobayashi (Kaiser '06 of Honolulu) was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.48) and the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly (53.66). Sophomore Christie Nakamura (Hawai'i Baptist '06 of Mililani) was second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.39) and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.33). She also was on the second-place Linfield team in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:00.08). Whitworth won both men's and women's matches.
COMMITMENTS
