Former Waipahu resident Kalen Sakima has been keeping busy beefing up his dance resume, from dancing in Pink's music video "God is My DJ" to teaching jazz at the Broadway Dance Center in Tokyo.

Sakima, who lives in Los Angeles, will take a break from his schedule to help other local aspiring dancers with two workshops on Friday at the Rosalie Woodson Dance Academy in 'Aiea.

"I always wanted to come back home to Hawai'i and share some of the challenges, opportunities and experience gained while on the Mainland," e-mailed Sakima, 24. "Hopefully, sharing my personal experiences on the Mainland will provide some guidance, inspiration and opportunities for those with similar dreams."

The professional dancer, teacher and choreographer started his training at 24-VII Danceforce in Kane'ohe. Since moving to California in 2002, Sakima has been working throughout L.A., as well as internationally. He's also a student at the Art Institute of California. Sakima's other credits include dancing for the Los Angeles Modern and Ballet Company, "Aida" national tour, and "Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular" at California Adventure Park.

Sakima will hold two workshops: "Intermediate/Advance Hip-Hop and Jazz-Funk," 7 to 8 p.m., $10; also, "Intermediate/Advance Lyrical and Contemporary," 8 to 10 p.m., $15; or $20 for both classes. For details, e-mail kcvb22@gmail.com.
