HILO
Report faulty lights for repair

Advertiser Staff

Big Island public works officials are asking residents to report faulty street lights so they can be repaired in time for Halloween night.

The county manages 9,246 street lights, each of which is operated by light-sensing cells. The lights fail when bulbs burn out or the sensor malfunctions and leaves the lights on all day.

If a street light in your neighborhood is lit all day or is not working at night, call 961-8341 on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the pole number and a description of the location of the light.

The average time from when a faulty light is reported until it is repaired is two to three weeks.
