MILILANI — Alefosiu Iu threw for three touchdowns — two to Matt Stowers — to give Farrington a 25-15 win over Castle at John Kauinana Stadium last night.

Farrington improved to 4-2-2 overall, 4-1-1 in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's Red East Division and Castle fell to 3-5, 3-3.

The Governors clinched the second seed in the Red East and a first-round bye in the OIA Tournament.

"This win was big for us confidence wise to finish second," said Farrington head coach Randall Okimoto. "I think those West teams though, they're all pretty good."

Castle can still finish third and earn a first-round bye on a coin flip if Kalaheo beats McKinley tonight at Kailua. Should McKinley top Kalaheo, Castle will finish fourth.

"We made a lot of mistakes that made it very tough for us," said Knights' head coach Nelson Maeda. "It hurts us because now there's a logjam at third, fourth and fifth."

The Knights got a break in the first quarter when Farrington muffed a punt return at its 10-yard line and Kaua Olds recovered at the 1.

Dylan Matsuda scored on the next play with 4:22 left in the first quarter to put Castle up 7-0.

In the second quarter, Farrington drove 63 yards, capped by a 6-yard touchdown pass from Iu to Stowers. Apelu So'oalo's extra point tied it at 7 with 9:45 left in the first half.

The Govs took advantage of another Castle mistake on the ensuing kickoff — a mishandled ball that Farrington's Lutua Folaumahina recovered at the Knights' 25.

Iu found Ani Isumu for a 4-yard TD pass. The extra point failed and Farrington led 13-7 at halftime.

Farrington's Drake Miller returned the second-half kickoff 40 yards to the Castle 37. Five plays later, Iu hooked up with Stowers on a 52-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion failed and Farrington led 19-7 with 10:23 left in the third quarter.
