Daniel Dae Kim of the hit TV series "Lost" issued a statement yesterday apologizing for his arrest on suspicion of drunk driving.
Kim, through his publicist in California, said he was "deeply ashamed and embarrassed" and will fully cooperate with Honolulu police.
"It saddens me to know that I jeopardized the welfare of the kind people of Hawai'i, a community that I love and call my home," the statement said.
Kim was arrested early Thursday after an officer spotted him driving erratically at about 2:30 a.m. on South King Street. He was released from the downtown police station after posting bail. Police say he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.168, twice the legal limit.
Kim is to appear in O'ahu District Court on Nov. 23.
"To my friends, family, colleagues and fans, thank you for your kind words of support." Kim said. "To those I have disappointed I can only ask that you accept my heartfelt apologies. I am truly, truly sorry."
'STAR TREK' WON'T BEAM UP SHATNER
LOS ANGELES — The original Capt. Kirk is disheartened he won't get to boldly go anywhere with his old pal Spock in the new "Star Trek" movie, due out in December 2008.
While Leonard Nimoy is reprising his role as the pointy-eared Vulcan, William Shatner is not on board as Kirk.
"I couldn't believe it. I'm not in the movie at all. Leonard, God bless his heart, is in, but not me," Shatner, 76, said Thursday. "I thought, what a decision to make, since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office. It didn't seem to be a wise business decision." Shatner said he had a couple of meetings with director J.J. Abrams about a part in the film, but nothing came of it.
T.I. GOES HOME TO AWAIT TRIAL
ATLANTA — Rapper T.I. was released on bond yesterday, but he'll be confined to his home to await trial on weapons charges.
"I want to thank all the fans for their support," T.I. said as he left the federal courthouse in Atlanta after posting a $3 million bond — $2 million of it in cash. "Due to the severity of the situation, I can't say much more."
Authorities say that on Oct. 13, about an hour before a scheduled performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta, the rapper — whose real name is Clifford Harris — showed up to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers. He already had three guns in his car — one of them loaded — when he was arrested, authorities say.
