Itokazu lifts CaneFires over BeachBoys

Starting pitcher Keisaku Itokazu allowed three hits and struck out six over six shutout innings as the West Oahu CaneFires beat the Waikiki BeachBoys, 3-1, last night in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Park.
Reliever Reid Santos didn't allow a hit in two scoreless innings and Chad Tracy doubled and hit a two-run homer for the CaneFires (8-15).
Michael McKenry hit an RBI double in the ninth off Ken Miyamoto to help the BeachBoys (10-14) avoid a shutout.
Earlier, Mat Gamel had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs and Stephen Chapman also had three hits as the North Shore Honu beat the Honolulu Sharks, 8-3.
VOLLEYBALL
HILO, CHAMINADE WIN
Josimara Pinheiro and Hillary Hurley each had 10 kills as Hawai'i-Hilo swept Grand Canyon, 30-19, 30-18, 30-26, last night in a Pacific West Conference match at Hilo civic.
Fabiane Seben added nine kills for Hilo (21-5 overall, 12-0 PacWest). Dana Edington led Grand Canyon (7-17, 3-9) with seven kills.
Elsewhere, Trina Kauliakamoa had 19 kills and 19 digs as Chaminade beat Dixie State, 30-22, 34-36, 30-23, 30-21, at McCabe Gym.
Caitlin Dowd added 14 kills for Chaminade (13-6 overall, 6-5 PacWest).
Cami Johnson had 17 kills and Elizabeth Stephens 27 digs for Dixie (5-23, 3-10).
CROSS COUNTRY
HARPER, WHITFORD FIRST
Brigham Young-Hawai'i's Golden Harper and Amanda Whitford won the races, while the Hawai'i Pacific men and Hawai'i-Hilo women captured the team titles of the Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championships yesterday at Belmont, Calif.
Harper finished the 8-kilometer men's race in 26 minutes, 23 seconds. HPU's Brandon Laan (26:51) was second and Esben Dalgaard (27:06) third.
Whitford finished the 5-kilometer women's race in 18:54, followed by Hilo's Kelly Rogers (19:11) and BYUH's Diana Voorhees (19:33).
HPU scored a low-best 45 points to win the men's title, followed by Notre Dame de Namur (47) and BYUH (57).
The Hilo women scored 32 points, followed by BYUH (45) and HPU (49).
