Leilehua High School defended its boys and girls team titles, and last year's individual winners repeated at yesterday's O'ahu Interscholastic Association cross country championships.
Leilehua junior Bryce Jenkins, last year's OIA and state champion, led the entire boys 3-mile race at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park, winning in 16 minutes, 14.49 seconds. He was one of five Mules who finished in the top 10 as Leilehua won its third straight team title with 26 points. Radford was second with 117.
"Over the season, the team has progressed and gotten better overall," Jenkins said. "Individually, we've all done pretty good too."
Mililani sophomore Kristin Ali Keith led from start to finish in defending her title, finishing the girls 3-mile race in 19:58.00.
Leilehua placed five girls in the top 11 to win its second straight team title with 36 points. Mililani was second with 67.
"We came closer as a team and that's how we ran closer together," said Leilehua junior Savannah Lowrie, who was third in 20:40.33.
Familiarity of the course helped Keith, who has trained at CORP.
"I think it helps you to know when you're tired, how much there is left," Keith said. "You know that you practice here so you know you've done exactly what you're doing now."
The top 65 boys and girls qualified for the state meet.
