Kicker Dan Kelly's missed point-after attempt following the Warriors' first touchdown last night was his first miss in 51 attempts this season. The last time Kelly missed a point after attempt? Oct. 21, 2006, on his first attempt against New Mexico State.

Even more surprising, given Kelly's consistency this year, was his extra-point attempt in the third quarter that bounced off of the right upright. Kelly said he hasn't done that since his sophomore year in high school.

"Tonight was a little out of character," Kelly said. "It's ironic (that the miss came against the Aggies) but it's not anything that anybody else is doing. It happens and it's all on me."

Kelly's 50 consecutive makes is a school record. Jason Elam is second with 46.

"I never plan to miss one and I don't plan to miss another one for the rest of my time here and, if I play professionally, for the rest of my career."

KHNL ANCHOR LUM TAKES TURN AS WARRIOR

KHNL News 8's Stephanie Lum proved up to the task of rousing the UH homecoming crowd last night as she took a turn doing Warrior mascot Vili Fehoko's job as part of the station's "Job Swap" feature. Of course, no one ever actually displaces Chief Vili.

Lum, positively ferocious in war paint and jog bra, worked the crowd with Fehoko at her side.

"She did great," Fehoko said. "I told her it looked like she had been doing it for years. I think she was surprised at the reaction she got from the crowd."

PATIENCE PAYS OFF FOR SOPHOMORE DAVIS

With the amount of experienced talent ahead of him on the depth chart, sophomore defensive back JoPierre Davis knew he'd have to bide his time to make an impression on Warrior fans.

That time came with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter when Davis sought a tackle and came up with the highlight of his still-nascent Warrior career: an interception and return for touchdown for 57 yards.

"I was coming up on him to tackle him and make a play, but he dropped (the ball)," Davis said. "Luckily, we've been through enough tip drills that I was able to come up with it and I just took off. It's what I've been waiting for all year."

Davis has played sparingly this year, but he said he hopes to make an impression in whatever time he's given.

"It can be frustrating, but we have so many talented seniors on this team that I can't get mad," he said. "I just want to make a play when I have the opportunity."
