Chicago trade show draws Isle delegates

The Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau is hitting the road this week to lure more business travel to the Islands. More than 120 representatives are in Chicago for one of the industry's premier business trade shows.
More than 20,000 meeting professionals — primarily incentive event planners and corporate decision-makers — are attending The Motivation Show, the world's largest exhibition of motivational products and services.
"We are going to Chicago in full force to show why Hawai'i is the No. 1 destination for inspiring employees and generating results," said Michael Murray, bureau vice president of sales and marketing for corporate meetings and incentives.
Sales professionals from other island visitor bureaus and travel companies also are attending.
MICROPLANET CLAIMS ELECTRICITY SAVINGS
MicroPlanet Inc., an energy conservation company, said initial results from a pilot program at Maui's Kapalua Resort indicate its new technology can result in a 13 percent reduction in electricity use.
The resort has tested its technology for the past six months.
5 CENTS PER UNIT AT ML MACADAMIA
ML Macadamia Orchards LP declared a quarterly cash distribution of 5 cents per Class A unit to be paid on Nov. 15 to unit holders of record as of Sept. 28.
TESORO SHARES UP ON S&P 500 LISTING
Shares of Tesoro Corp., the Texas company that owns Hawai'i's largest oil refinery, jumped $1.37 to $51.01 a day after the company was named to the Standard & Poor's 500 Index.
FLAT-FEE REALTY FIRM OPENING 3RD OFFICE
Jeffrey Samuels Real Estate Services plans to expand with a third O'ahu office. The flat-fee brokerage firm said it will open the office Oct. 1 in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center.
