A Japanese citizen was indicted today on two counts of first-degree sex assault and one count of third-degree sex assault in connection with the alleged attack on a college student.

Nariaki Saito, 27, who claims a Waikiki address on Seaside Avenue as his address, was arrested Thursday at Ward Centre, where he was employed as a valet, after contacting the female victim, 21, last Wednesday and asking her to meet him. there.

The woman, a University of Hawai'i-Manoa student, brought police with her to the meeting.

Saito is in Hawai'i as a tourist, said prosecutors.

According to an affidavit filed at court, the woman had gone drinking in Waikiki on March 17 and awoke at an unknown location after being put into a taxi by a friend. The woman told police a man was touching her and shoved her head onto the floor when she screamed. The suspect pounded the woman's head on the floor before she was "subjected to sexual penetration via strong compulsion," according to the indictment.

The woman realized after the alleged attack she was in a ground-level apartment unit in Makiki near Pensacola Street. She was later driven home by the suspect.

During the ride to the dorm, the woman said she heard her cellphone ring but couldn't locate it. The suspect gave her his cellphone to call her number in order to find her cellphone, which was under the car seat.

Upon dropping her off at the dorm, the suspect told her he wanted to see her again.

The woman was examined and treated at Kapi'olani Medical Center/Sex Abuse Treatment Center on March 18. She had numerous abrasions and contusions to her head, chest, wrist, knee and buttock areas, the court document stated.

The case was reported to police and the woman provided the suspect's cellphone number, which was registered on her cellphone, and a description of her assailant and his vehicle.

The case was being investigated when Saito allegedly texted a message to the woman on March 18 seeking a meeting.

A $50,000 warrant was issued for the arrest of Saito as part of the indictment process.
