HONOLULU — The William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa announces that it will again honor the memory and many accomplishments of the late Congresswoman Patsy Takemoto Mink by awarding the 2008 Patsy Takemoto Mink Legislative Fellowship to a second-year law student at a special "Patsy Mink Tribute" event and reception on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Law School Classroom 2.
The featured guest speaker will be Constance Lau, president & CEO of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc.
The Patsy Takemoto Mink Legislative Fellowship was created by law students from the William S. Richardson School of Law in 2003 to honor Mink's legacy. Each year, the fellowship affords a law student interested in public policy and social justice the opportunity to intern in the House or Senate office of a member of the Hawai'i congressional delegation in Washington, D.C. Van Luong, the first Patsy Mink Fellow, is now a legislative assistant in Sen. Daniel K. Inouye's Washington office.
Eligible applicants are William S. Richardson students in good academic standing with demonstrated leadership abilities and a commitment to public service. The fellowship is funded by donors committed to continuing and building upon Mink's achievements.
The event is open to the public.
