A 37-year-old Honolulu man died yesterday following an auto accident near Liliha, but authorities suspect he may have had a medical emergency at the time.
An autopsy today will try to determine cause of death of Kevin Neeson. He died at The Queen's Medical Center at 8:51 a.m., 54 minutes after the accident on 'A'ala Street, south of North School Street, was reported to police.
"It appears he maybe had medical problems before the crash," Honolulu Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.
Police vehicular homicide investigator Sgt. Danny Kaholokula said Neeson was driving south on 'A'ala Street in a 2003 Chevrolet sedan when he rear-ended a 2002 Hyundai sedan driven by a 36-year-old woman.
The impact sent the Hyundai into the west curb. The Chevrolet crossed over to the northbound lane of 'A'ala Street and hit a parking meter and a tree, Kaholokula said.
Neeson was found unconscious in his car. He and the woman driver were taken to Queen's in critical and fair conditions, respectively, Kaholokula said.
Police vehicular homicide investigators have tentatively listed the death as O'ahu's 12th traffic fatality of 2008, pending the autopsy findings.
