Two jazz greats — Hawai'i's Gabe Baltazar, the saxophonist, and Cincinatti's April Aloisio, a soulful vocalist — team up to head "Jazz & Gumbo," an all-star Memorial Day weekend gig May 23, 25 and 26.

Performances will be from 8 to 10 p.m. May 23, 7 to 9 p.m. May 25 and 4 to 6 p.m. May 26 at the Banana Patch Lounge of the Miramar Beach Hotel.

The event is presented by The Jazz Intersection, a jazz listening internet site created by James Harber, a former KUMU radio deejay.

Other participants include Tennyson Stevens Trio, David Leshare Watson, Ginai and Starr Kalahiki. Rob Peterson of KTUH radio will emcee.

Baltazar, 78, last year was honored by the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts, earning a Na Hoku Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award. He has a colorful career, including a notable stint with the Stan Kenton Band from 1960 to 1965.

Aloisio is a world-class stylist incorporating the music of Brazil with American jazz.

Tickets: $25.

Reservations: 486-9759 or 294-9131 or email jamesharber2001@yahoo.com.
