Matt Daly had his longest and best outing of the season as a starter and Jon Hee went 3 for 4 with two RBI and Hawai'i beat Nevada, 4-0, today to take its third consecutive Western Athletic Conference series.

Daly (5-2) gave up two hits and five walks with seven strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings for the Rainbows (19-22 overall, 11-9 WAC), who took 3 of 4. Sam Spanlger struck out the only batter he faced and Jayson Kramer pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the shutout.

Derek Achelpohl (1-2) went 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, six hits and three walks with two strikeouts for the Wolf Pack (22-17, 9-7).

The Rainbows broke the scoreless deadlock in the fifth. Kevin Macdonald led off with a walk and took third on Vinnie Catricala's single to right-center. Greg Garcia walked to load the bases to set up Landon Hernandez's sacrifice fly to right that also moved Catricala to third. Catricala scored to make it 2-0 when Sean Montplaisir grounded out to first on a hit-and-run play.

Nevada threatened in the seventh. Shaun Kort flared a single to right-center for Wolf Pack's first hit of the game and Terry Walsh walked. Both advanced on Mike Hale's sacrifice. But Daly struck out the next two batters to maintain his shutout through seven.

The Rainbows added two in the seventh and chased starter Achelpohl. With two outs, Hernandez walked and took second on Montplaisir's single to right. After a 1-0 count on the left-handed hitting Derek DuPree, the right-handed Achelpohl was pulled for left-handed Jacob Kaup. But DuPree walked to load the bases and Kaup was lifted for the right-handed Stephen Bautista. Jon Hee followed with a two-run single to left that moved DuPree to second and increased UH's lead to 4-0.
