After years of rumors and near misses, the Trump name is finally a part of the Las Vegas scene. The official opening of the Trump Tower took place last week, presided over by The Donald himself and an all-star cast of city and industry luminaries and beauty queens. The $1.2 billion Trump International Tower is 64 stories and has 1,282 studio, one-bedroom, and penthouse suites. TRUMP is illuminated at the top of the building and the name of the featured restaurant is simply the initials DJT. The studios that rent as hotel rooms start at $349 per night and increase in price depending on the size and view.
LADIES' DEAL: AGO, the new upscale Italian eatery at the Hard Rock, is running a special called "Ladies Night Out" through April. Tuesdays through Thursdays between 5 and 10 p.m., ladies who dine in the lounge get 50 percent off food and drinks from the bar menu. And it's a good menu, featuring selections from sliced tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella to a 10-ounce Black Angus New York steak.
SUMMER SIRENS: Summer hours are in progress for the "Sirens of TI" pirate show at Treasure Island. Weather permitting, the shows run at 7, 8:30, 10 and 11:30 every night. Since debuting in 2003, more than 4,250 shows have performed to an estimated 9.6 million customers, but not one ticket has been sold to this excellent free spectacle.
Q. What's big, green, and towers over the Las Vegas Strip?
A. It could be the big green MGM Grand, but you're probably referring to the Palazzo, which has been named the largest "green" building in the world by the U.S. Green Building Council. The building's environmentally friendly credentials include being built from recycled structural steel and concrete, a waste-recycling program that has diverted more than 70 percent of waste from landfill, water-efficient bathroom fixtures, solar-heated pools, and air-conditioning sensors that react to guests' presence (or absence) in the hotel suites.
