Surfing, canoe paddling, paddleboarding, swimming and other ocean sports contests will be staged in Waikiki next week.

Just how Duke Kahanamoku would have liked it.

The 7th annual Duke's OceanFest is scheduled to start Sunday and run every day through Aug. 24.

"Duke's OceanFest is the best week of the year to enjoy Waikiki Beach. It's incredibly fun for residents and visitors alike, and is based on the long and storied water sports tradition that Duke Kahanamoku and Hawai'i's watermen established through the years," said Patrick Dugan, president of the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation.

One of the festival's objectives is to raise money for ODKF's college scholarship and athletic grants program.

Among the ocean sports in the festival:

  • Duke Kahanamoku Long Distance Race — an outrigger canoe race on Sunday. The course will start at Kailua Beach and finish at Duke Kahanamoku Beach.

  • Rabbit Kekai Keiki Surf Contest, Sunday at Queen's Surf.
