Cherry Blossom Cabaret to offer workshop
Advertiser Staff
This city's only burlesque troupe is moving from teasing to teaching for a few nights to offer its first burlesque workshop.
Lola Love (not her real name, of course, but telling would spoil the fun) of the Cherry Blossom Cabaret is holding a three-part workshop designed to bring out the ooh-la-la in any average gal (sorry fellas, this one's for the ladies).
Scheduled for the three consecutive Thursdays in September, "BurlyQ Basics" will offer students the skills they need to stage their very own burlesque performance, including techniques to increase grace and balance, proper hip and shoulder movement, how to use props, how to peel gloves, how to walk (the sexy kind of walking), how to command stage presence and how to create your own choreography.
Enrollment for the workshop is $55 with a registration fee of $25. Classes will be held at Chinatown performance space The Loft (115 N. Hotel Street, on the corner of Hotel Street and Maunakea Avenue) from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, September 11, 18 and 25. Admission is restricted to women ages 18 and older. Suggested dress code: comfortable clothes and — what else? — high heels.
