A 73-year-old Iowa man tonight denied shoving a woman during Friday's break-in at 'Iolani Palace and accused authorities of drugging him while he was in custody at the main police station cellblock.
D. Alfred Love-Boltz of Lansing, Iowa, identified as a "quasi investigator" by Kingdom of Hawai'i officials and as a "USA patrolman" by himself, has been charged by the state Attorney General's office with second-degree assault against Betty Jean Noelani Ah Yuen, facilities manager for Friends of 'Iolani Palace.
Love-Boltz is free on $5,000 bail, pending his preliminary hearing tomorrow at District Court. He made his intial appearance today.
"No, I didn't assault that lady," Love-Boltz said in a news conferenced called by Kingdom of Hawai'i. "She was at the gate, she was kicking one of the (Kingdom's) palace guards. I didn't want her to get hurt ... all I did was pull her away from the gate."
Love-Boltz said Ah Yuen's hand was in danger of being slammed by the frame of the gate, which was being pushed by three others. He claims Ah Yuen, in fact, assaulted him, "hitting me in the face."
Love-Boltz said he was acting as a "USA patrolman" brought here by the Kingdom of Hawai'i to protect the interests of the U.S. government and Kingdom of Hawai'i.
Love-Boltz said he was taken to The Queen's Medical Center Sunday. "My head about exploded and my tongue was dry," Love-Boltz said, claiming he had been heavily drugged by authorities at the cellblock. "It was in the first cup of water and bowl of soup they gave me."
Six others charged with second-degree burglary, released Sunday after posting $5,000 bail, will make their initial appearances at District Court Sept. 20.
The six are Grace Akahi, also known as Akahi Wahine, Wayne Nunes, Raynette Nunes, Terry N. Kaahanui, Tanya K. Kaahanui and Vanessa Fimbres.
Sixteen others charged with criminal trespass and released on $50 bail also have initial appearances scheduled.
Burglary charges are pending against two other men, who who was released Friday for health reasons, and another who escaped while being treated for injuries at Queen's and is still at large.
