City Council votes to put rail on ballot
The Honolulu City Council today voted 8-0 in favor of a charter amendment asking the electorate whether the city shall "establish a steel wheel on steel rail transit system."
However, the question will be placed before voters only if Stop Rail Now's anti-rail ordinance fails to make it on the ballot.
The Honolulu City Clerk plans announce by Sept. 3 whether Stop Rail Now's petition to put rail on the ballot is successful.
The council's action today virtually assures that the rail question will be put before voters this fall.
