A California woman was killed yesterday on Maui when her motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on the Hana Highway, police said.

Melissa Zander, 54, of Glendale, Calif., was heading toward Pa'ia near Ho'okipa Beach Park at 4:47 p.m. when she crossed the center line and hit the Haiku-bound truck, police said.

The 52-year-old Haiku man driving the truck, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured.

Zander was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Her death is the 14th on Maui County roadways this year, one less than occurred last year during the same time.
