Oahu residents asked to conserve water

Windward O'ahu residents are being asked to cut back their water use in anticipation of a dry remainder of the year.
The Honolulu Board of Water Supply wants families to reduce their water consumption by about 10 percent — 50 gallons a day for an average family of four.
The board says the current water supply level isn't critical, but it might run short if the drought continues into the rainy season, which typically starts in October. Board of Water Supply Chief Engineer Cliff Lum says water conservation is a necessary step to avoid having to go through more stringent restrictions in the future.
Mandatory conservation measures may be necessary if these conservation efforts don't work.
