A 62-year-old man drowned while fighting an undertow at Pololu Valley Beach on the Big Island this afternoon.

The man was found in cardiac arrest when firefighters responded shortly after 2 p.m. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, firefighters said.
