If you love art, visit the "I Love Art Gallery" when the Hawai'i State Museum stays open late for this month's First Friday festivities.

The educational gallery space allows hands-on learning opportunities for visitors of all ages and will tie in to some of the objects on view at the museum.

On Friday, two new exhibits will open:

  • "Accession: Recent Acquisitions From the Art in Public Places Collection," features work meant to build public appreciation of visual arts by artists such as Toshiko Takaezu, Jerry Okimoto, Reiko Brandon, Laura Smith, Charles Higa and Kenneth Bushnell.

  • "Intertwine: A Selection of Hawai'i Fiber Art," showcases decades of textile and fiber art that use a mix of styles, media and techniques to reflect Hawai'i's diverse artistic and cultural heritage. The exhibit has been put together in conjunction with the 11th Biennial Symposium of the Textile Society of America being held in Honolulu.

The new exhibits will open during the First Friday event from 5 to 9 p.m., but the museum is generally open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is always free.
