Big Island brushfire that burned 10 acres under investigation
A brushfire in Ka'upulehu on the Big Island yesterday may have been intentionally set, firefighters said.
The fire burned around 10 acres, but did not damage any structures. About 29 firefighters helped put out the blaze.
The fire started around 11:23 a.m. near Makalawena Access Road, and crews stayed at the scene through the night to make sure hotspots didn't flare up.
Capt. Grant Kojima, of the Hawai'i Fire Department, said the cause of the fire appears "suspicious," but remains under investigation.
