MLB: Former 2B Joe Gordon elected to Hall by Vets panel

NEW YORK — Former second baseman Joe Gordon, half of Major League Baseball's only trade of managers, has been elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.
The late Gordon was a nine-time All-Star with the New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians. He played on five World Series championship teams and retired in 1950.
Gordon earned a unique spot in baseball history in August 1960 when, in his third season as Cleveland's manager, he was traded to Detroit for Jimmie Dykes. According to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, it was the only manager-for-manager trade.
Gordon's Indians were 46-41 when he was traded, and his Tigers went 26-31. He resigned following the season.
Gordon was the only person elected Monday on a ballot of players who began their careers before 1943.
