Advertiser Staff

Dominating the rebounding battle was not enough for the University of Hawaii men's basketball team to upset Illinois today.

The Fighting Illini defeated the Rainbow Warriors, 68-58, at Assembly Hall in Champaign, Ill.

The 'Bows, who were playing their first road game of the season, dropped to 3-3 and ended a three-game winning streak. Illinois improved to 8-1.

Hawai'i out-rebounded Illinois, 43-14. However, the 'Bows committed 22 turnovers to the Illini's five.

The game was close for most of the first half, but Illinois went on a 17-2 run just before halftime, and took a 39-26 lead at intermission.

Illinois maintained the lead the entire second half.

Petras Balocka had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Hawai'i, and Roderick Flemings added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Chester Frazier and Dominique Keller lead the Illini with 14 points each.

The 'Bows are scheduled to return to Honolulu today. They will host Eastern

Washington on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
