Rock removal closes part of Diamond Head Road

Diamond Head Road near the middle lookout will be closed again today to allow the Department of Land and Natural Resources to complete work to remove rockfall material that fell onto the road yesterday.
The road was closed at 8 a.m. today to through traffic and will reopen as soon as the work is completed, which is expected later today. Exact time of that completion is not yet known.
The road is open to local traffic from either end, and surfers will be able to access their usual parking areas.
State Parks administrator Dan Quinn said that in addition to removing rockfall material from yesterday's rockslide, there is evidence of recent rockfalls not previously reported, that will also be cleaned up today as a precautionary measure. Temporary jersey barriers will be installed beneath the crater slopes along the roadside until a more permanent solution can be reached.
