Fire gutted a home on the Helemano Military Reservation on Christmas Eve, displacing a family and causing an estimated $30,000 in structural damage and $6,000 more in contents that were in the home, a spokesman for the Honolulu Fire Department said.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are meeting with the family today to help with shelter, clothing and food needs.
An unattended candle on the second floor of the structure started the fire, HFD Capt. Earle Kealoha said this morning.
Federal firefighters put out the blaze at 118 Koloko Court, Unit 202, with one HFD engine assisting, Kealoha said.
Nobody was injured, but the family was displaced.
