Almost lost in the barrage of recent national honors bestowed on Punahou's Manti Te'o was one more coveted award: Interscholastic League of Honolulu Defensive Player of the Year.

Te'o, a 6-foot-2, 233-pound senior linebacker, was picked as the ILH's best on defense after a vote of league coaches.

In the past three weeks, Te'o also was named Hawai'i's Gatorade Player of the Year, the first high school winner of the Dick Butkus Award recognizing the nation's top linebacker, The Sporting News' High School Athlete of the Year and USA Today's national Defensive Player of the Year.

Punahou running back Dalton Hilliard was named ILH Offensive Player of the Year, beating out several outstanding candidates.

Hilliard (6-0, 190, Sr.) was an all-purpose threat, rushing for 461 yards and eight touchdowns entering the postseason, and catching 45 passes for 527 yards and seven more TDs. He helped the Buffanblu average 36.8 points per game in ILH play as they won their second league crown in four years.

Punahou's Kale Ane was named Coach of the Year, giving the Buffanblu a clean sweep of ILH postseason honors.

Saint Louis led the way with nine players on the ILH All-Star first team — five on offense and four on defense. Punahou had four players selected on each side, and Kamehameha landed two players each on offense and defense.

'Iolani had three first-team all-stars on defense and one on offense; Pac-Five had two on offense and Damien one.
