Weaver, Wichmann win events

University of Hawai'i seniors Meghan Weaver and Annett Wichmann, and junior Emily Sheppard posted NCAA provisional marks at the University of Washington Track and Field Invitational in Seattle.
Weaver, who is from London, Ontario, shattered the UH indoor record in the shot put with a heave of 50 feet, 2 1/2 inches yesterday to win the competition by more than a foot. She will likely earn a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.
Wichmann, a native of Jena, Germany and the reigning Western Athletic Conference pentathlon champion, scored 4,027 points to win the event after just missing the NCAA automatic qualification by 23 points. She will likely make her second straight appearance in the NCAAs.
Sheppard, who is from Vancouver, British Columbia, placed third in the high jump with a school indoor record of 5-10 1/2.
Also yesterday, junior Jessica Custance set a school indoor record after clearing 12-8 in the pole vault to finish seventh, and junior Thalia Amanakis set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.75 seconds to finish ninth. Amanakis also bettered her personal best in the 800 with a 2:13.09. Sophomore Sam Whitehall also set a PR in the event at 2:24.39.
Other highlights included personal bests by Samantha Weaver in the pole vault (12-2), Careena Onosai in the shot put (39-8 1/2), and Brittani Daniels in the weight toss (49-9 3/4).
On Friday, Wichmann ran the 60-meter hurdles in a school-best 8.99 seconds and had a personal-best high jump of 5-8. She also heaved the shot 43-4 1/4, long-jumped 17-6 1/4 and ran the 800 in 2:19.60.
Senior Mallory Gilbert placed fourth with 3,691 points. She had personal bests in the hurdles (9.45), shot put (36-4), long jump (18-3 1/4) and 800 (2:30.78), and high-jumped 5-8.
Senior Chantelle Wilder placed seventh in the 5-kilometer run with a personal-best 17:03.63.

BYUH SWEEPS UHH
Agnes Tuilevuka scored 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting as Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 100-86, last night in a Pacific West Conference women's game at La'ie.
Hoku Holdcraft added 19 points for the Seasiders (3-15 overall, 3-6 PacWest), who shot 60.7 percent (34 of 56) from the field.
Sheila Azevedo had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Vulcans (5-12, 5-5).
In the men's game, Paul Peterson scored 28 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line as BYUH blitzed Hilo, 96-62.
Lucas Alves added 14 points for the Seasiders (11-5, 6-3). Vince Alvarado led the Vulcans (9-8, 5-5) with 16 points.
