An upper level trough responsible for much of the rain during the past week was near Maui this morning and is expected to move off to the east of the Big Island by this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Once the trough moves away, a more settled trade wind weather pattern should make its return to the islands, forecasters said.

Here's how the next few days are looking at this point:

Today: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind between 11 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Sunday: Isolated showers before noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind between 9 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Sunday night: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Monday: Isolated showers before noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind between 10 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Monday night: Scattered showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
