UH water polo rolls by UC Santa Cruz

Freshman Samantha Motekaitis scored five goals to lead the University of Hawai'i women's water polo team to a 20-6 victory over UC Santa Cruz yesterday in Palo Alto, Calif.

Leoni Van Der Molen and Lisa van Raalte each had three goals for the Rainbow Wahine (3-0, 2-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) as 10 UH players scored.

Sara Gralitzer had 10 saves for Hawai'i.

The Rainbow Wahine will play in the Stanford Invitational today. UH will face San Jose State, UCLA and Michigan.


GOLF

STANFORD CAPTURES TITLE AT UH-HILO TOURNAMENT

Stanford captured the UH-Hilo Invitational yesterday, finishing with a three-round score of 813 in the men's golf tournament.

Arizona State and Southern California tied for second at 816. UH-Hilo finished in 16th place (861) and the University of Hawai'i-Manoa finished last at 868.

Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State was the medalist, after shooting a 4-under-par 66 yesterday to finish at 13-under 197.

Jesus Valdivia and Zady Ari were the top two golfers for the Vulcans, each finishing tied for 57th at 216.

Kyle Walters led UH-Manoa, finishing in a tie for 47th at 214.

Sean Maekawa, a Honoka'a High alum now golfing for the University of Oregon, finished tied for 23rd at 209.

DIVISION II BASKETBALL



UH-HILO WOMEN ROLL BY CHAMINADE, 89-70

Nesha Kimitete scored 20 points, Jessica Hanato added 14 and Krystelyn Omlan had 13 as the University of Hawai'i-Hilo beat Chaminade, 89-70, last night in a women's Pacific West Conference basketball game in Hilo.

The win lifts the Vulcans to 6-5 in league and 6-12 overall.

Chaminade was led by Samantha Saito (15 points), Caitlin Prager (14) and Felicia Alves (13).

The Silverswords dropped to 0-13 in league and 0-20 overall.

The two teams will meet again today, also in Hilo.

UH-HILO MEN KNOCK OFF CHAMINADE, 81-72

Perry Baggett and John Smith each scored 19 points to lead the University of Hawai'i-Hilo to an 81-72 victory over Chaminade last night in a men's Pacific West Conference basketball game in Hilo.

Rashad Bilal added 13 points for the Vulcans (19-8, 6-5 PacWest), who led 41-29 at intermission. Marko Kolaric led four Chaminade players in double figures with 19 points.

Hayden Heiber added 11 and Rodrick Johnson and Stewart Kussler each had 10 for the Silverswords, who are 16-6 overall and 11-2 in the Pacific West Conference.

The two teams play again tonight, also in Hilo.
