Hawaii in softball title game

The 16th-ranked University of Hawai'i softball team swept a doubleheader yesterday to advance to today's championship game of the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Kate Robinson pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts to help beat Kentucky, 6-0, in the first game.
Katie Grimes hit a solo homer, Julie Franklin belted a two-run shot and Kaulana Gould had two hits, including a two-run double, for the Rainbow Wahine.
In Hawai'i's second game, Courtney Baughman pitched a four-hitter with three strikeouts as the 'Bows beat Long Beach State, 6-1. Baughman gave up a homer to Lacy Tyler in the bottom of the first, but went on to face only 23 batters, two over the minimum, and retired the last 10.
Robinson hit a solo homer and Ritchie-Anne Titcomb hammered a three-run shot to cap a four-run sixth that made it 5-1. Titcomb, Brandi Peiler, Clare Warwick and Tanisha Milca each had two hits.
In other games yesterday, Long Beach State beat Central Florida, 4-2, and Central Florida beat Kentucky, 6-0.
Hawai'i will play the winner of today's 10 a.m. game between Central Florida and Long Beach for the title at 2 p.m. If the 'Bows lose, a winner-take-all final will follow.

Hawai'i Pacific swept a doubleheader against fellow Pacific West Conference members yesterday at Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Courtney Kessell pitched a five-hitter as the Sea Warriors beat Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 5-0. Puna Waiolama hit a pair of two-run doubles and Casey Sugihara hit an RBI double.
In the second game, Sherise Musquiz pitched a three-hitter as HPU beat Chaminade, 4-0. The Sea Warriors scored all four runs in the bottom of the fourth — Nicole Kalakau hit a two-run single, and Laine Shikuma and Krystal Plunkett each had RBI singles.

GILBERT TIES JUMP MARK
University of Hawai'i senior Mallory Gilbert high-jumped 5 feet, 10 1/2 inches yesterday at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. to tie a school record set by Emily Sheppard two weeks ago.
Gilbert placed second at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor Track.
Thalia Amanakis broke her UH record in the 60-meter hurdles by clocking 8.68 seconds. She also set a personal best in the 800 with 2:10.65.
The 4x400 relay team of Amanakis, Sam Whitehall, Renee Elbourne and Candace Rosenthal placed sixth in 3:52.77 to break the school indoor mark.
