Unity Church service at Shell

Unity Church of Hawaii is moving its Easter service to the Waikiki Shell for the first time.

The 10:30 a.m. service will be an ecumenical Easter service.

Music will be by Anita Hall, Zanuck Lindsey, Kristian Lei, Faith Rivera, Cathy Foy, Scott Wallace and Ryan and Christina Souza.

Alethea Train will conduct an 11-piece orchestra for the event, which will feature a 35-person choir.

EASTER MUSIC AT MILILANI CHURCH

The Music Ministry of Mililani Baptist Church will present a program of Easter music at 6 p.m. March 16.

The program, presented by the adult choir under the direction of Larry Julian, will feature a collective work by Russell Mauldin, with soloist Beverly Little.

It will also present Richard Kingsmore's "At Calvary Medley" and "If Not For Christ," arranged by renowned composer Dan Goller.

The church is at 94-293 Anania Drive in Mililani.

INTERNEE SURVIVAL TOPIC OF LECTURE

Gail Y. Okawa will discuss "Calm in Adversity: Japanese Values, Resistance and Survival in U.S. World War II Concentration Camps" as part of the Fujitani Interfaith Program at 1 p.m. March 9.

The lecture will be held in the Ching Conference Center of Chaminade University, 3140 Wai'alae Ave.

Okawa, a professor of English at Ohio's Youngstown State University, will talk about the adversity encountered by internees from Hawai'i and how their Japanese values, literacy and identity helped them survive the hardships of captivity.
