Fishing: Alton Jones wins first Bassmaster Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Alton Jones won his first Bassmaster Classic title today, beating Cliff Pace by 5 pounds, 2 ounces at Lake Hartwell.
Jones, from Waco, Texas, had a final-day catch of 13 pounds, 7 ounces for a three-day total of 49 pounds, 7 ounces. Competing in his 11th Bassmaster Classic, Jones earned $500,000 from the $1.2 million purse.
Pace, from Petal, Texas, caught 11 pounds today to finish at 44 pounds, 5 ounces.
