A memorial service for Nancy Bannick, historic preservationist and philanthropist, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Central Union Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Honolulu Symphony, 650 Iwilei Road, Suite 202, Honolulu, HI 96817.

Bannick, who died Feb. 19 at age 81, was instrumental in the effort to preserve Chinatown and its historic buildings. She led the effort to declare Chinatown a historic district in 1973.

Most recently, Bannick worked as leader of the Friends of the Natatorium group, which has been working to preserve the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jeannine; nephews, Christian and Kurt; and niece, Stephanie Simpson, all of Seattle.

Burial will take place at the family plot in Iowa. Arrangements were by Ultimate Cremation.
