MAN MISSING FROM SLOOP OFF KAUA'I
Coast Guard investigators are looking into the disappearance of an Orange County, Calif., man whose 30-foot sailboat was found Sunday 19 miles off Kaua'i with no one aboard.
The Orange County Register yesterday identified the missing man as Darrin Frank Bunker, 42. The newspaper said Bunker, of Aliso Viejo, Calif., bought the rebuilt Catalina sloop Bug Trap for $18,000 in August 2007 with plans to live aboard the vessel.
Bunker was last seen Oct. 3 when he set out on a 100-mile cruise from Dana Point Harbor to San Diego.
Bunker has worked in the online gambling industry for 15 years and founded Posse Entertainment in 2006, according to the Register.
Kaua'i resident and fisherman Henry Zeevat spotted the damaged yacht Sunday morning.
Zeevat radioed the Coast Guard and reported no one was aboard. He towed the yacht to Nawiliwili Harbor.
