Just in time to frustrate New Year's resolutions about staying away from sweets, Honolulu Cookie Co. this week introduced a new line of dark chocolate-dipped cookies.

The new pineapple-shaped dipped shortbread treats include butter macadamia, Kona coffee and triple chocolate macadamia flavors packed in espresso-brown boxes with silver foil lettering and silver ribbon — in small, medium and large boxes (from $6.95 to $13.50, depending on flavors). Keith and Janet Sung founded Honolulu Cookie Co. in 1996 and now operate 10 locations (including the Kalihi factory store and a new spot in the Hyatt Regency Waikiki hotel).

ST. PADDY MUSUBI

CALLING BIG EATERS

In some places, it's green beer. In others, a parade. On O'ahu, the annual sign that St. Patrick's Day is upon us is L&L's corned beef musubi eating contest. The fourth annual contest is set for 11 a.m. March 15 at the Kahala Mall center stage. This year's big eater will win a roundtrip ticket to the West Coast, $50 in cash and a year's supply of Pepsi.

Competitors must be 18 or older and must apply in advance. Contact L&L at 951-9888 or visit www.HawaiianBarbecue.com.
