Speaker and author Deepak Chopra is coming to the Hawai'i Convention Center for the first time in 15 years.
"An Evening with Deepak Chopra" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28. Chopra created The Chopra Center for Wellbeing in California in 1995, which focuses on mind-body medicine, yoga, self-discovery, emotional wellness, meditation and personal empowerment.

GROUP CHOOSES 'LIVING TREASURES'
The 2008 Living Treasures of Hawaii have been chosen: Edwin Mahiai Beamer, Dr. Charles P.K.M. Burrows, the Rev. Sam Cox, Benjamin Kodama and Elsie T. Tanaka.
They will be honored by the Honpa Hongwanji at its 33rd annual banquet on Feb. 8.

ORDER TO HONOR MOTHER MARIANNE
The Sisters of St. Francis will hold several events to celebrate Mother Marianne's Feast Day (Wednesday, her birthday) as well as the order's 125th anniversary, including:
Marianne Cope came here in 1883 and spent 35 years caring for Hansen's disease patients in Honolulu and at Kalaupapa, as well as opening hospitals. She's one of two people with Hawai'i ties who are in the process of being named saints.
KIM NEW PASTOR AT KOREAN CHURCH
The Korean Christian Church will install the Rev. Samuel Kim as pastor of the Korean Christian Church at 4 p.m. Jan. 26.
Kim was ordained in 2005 and received his master's of divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2006, while serving as English ministry pastor at the World Mission Church in Los Angeles.
He is married to Kyung Sun Kim and has three children.

MISSIONARIES BACK IN THE ISLANDS
Rick Power will return to Honolulu as senior pastor at Honolulu First Church of the Nazarene after serving with his wife, Vicki, as missionaries for the past 15 years.
Power was the youth pastor at Honolulu First Church and then became president of Nazarene Youth International from 1989-1993.
Honolulu First Church of the Nazarene is at 408 N. Judd St.; Sunday services are at 10:30 a.m.

FORMER IRAQI GENERAL TO SPEAK
Word of Life Christian Center will hear one of Saddam Hussein's former top generals, Georges Sada, speak during tomorrow's 6 p.m. service.
Sada now serves as the Iraq director of World Compassion Ministries, an international relief organization founded by Terry Law. He also wrote "Saddam's Secrets," and was once one of Saddam's most trusted advisors who later was honored for saving the lives of downed pilots.

SPEAKERS SET FOR 2-DAY CONFERENCE
