Valerie Ragaza-Miao, owner of Valerie Joseph Boutiques and a woman known for her passion for fashion, is partnering with Planned Parenthood of Hawaii to present a fashion show tonight in the "Pink Palace," The Royal Hawaiian hotel. The show is called Haute Pink Party, so naturally the garments will focus on the girly shade.

The show features fashions by local designers Katrina Bodnyk of State of Mind, Toby Portner of Toby P., Jodi Salmonson of KariJane Threads and Deb Mascia of Mu'umu'u Heaven, as well as vintage looks from The Closet Chick and evening wear from Vow Bridal.

The fundraiser opens at 5:30 p.m., with cocktails and a silent auction that includes a couture gown designed by Ragaza-Miao. The fashion show follows at 7 p.m.

Some last-minute tickets are available at a cost of $150. Call Sheila O'Keefe at 589-1156, ext. 225.

MU'UMU'U HEAVEN GROWING

Mu'umu'u Heaven, the fun little eco-store at 767 Kailua Road, is now open seven days a week, announced high-energy owner/designer Deb Mascia. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. On Second Sunday, during the Kailua Gallery Walk, hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition, Mascia, a native Australian, will be opening a shop in Sydney. She's also scouting locations in Southern California.

Her new bamboo line, which combines soft knits made from bamboo along with vintage aloha-print fabrics, is proving to have a following both here and on the Mainland. Her totally green philosophy is also resonating across the continents.

MAKING GREEN GORGEOUS

Speaking of going green, Smashbox has just introduced a line of environmentally friendly cosmetics they're calling Green Room, available at Sephora stores. The collection includes biodegradable bronzers and eye shadows, as well as lip glosses and primers in recyclable packaging.

To celebrate the launch, Smashbox makeup experts will be on hand at Sephora stores to give green consultations and makeovers. They'll be available from noon to 6 p.m. today and tomorrow at Sephora Ala Moana, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sephora Pearlridge.

Wanna go green with your makeup tools too? Ecotools offers a line of "Bambootiful" makeup brushes.

The handles are bamboo and the bristles are animal-free taklon (made from soft, pliable synthetic hair), while the metallic bits are made from recycled aluminum cans. The brushes are housed in reusable pouches and printed with plant-based ink.

They're sold at Kmart or online at www.parispresents.com.

OFF THE MAT TO CLOSE

After five years of bringing the best in yoga and workout fashions to the women of Honolulu, (she was the first with lululemon and Lily Lotus, among other iconic lines), Vanessa Beaton has decided to close the doors at Off the Mat in Kaimuki.

"It's a tough time. It's bittersweet. It was a rough Christmas for retail and now the timing just feels right for us as a family," Beaton said.

She plans to take some time off and will go holoholo with her toddler son to Disneyland.

"I haven't had a real vacation in five years," she sighed. Then she said she'll "shift into something that's not so stressful for me." It's aloha to retail.
