DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Brad Stuart to a four-year contract today.
No other contract terms were released.
The Red Wings obtained the 28-year-old Stuart from the Los Angeles Kings at the trade deadline last season in exchange for Detroit's second-round draft pick in 2008 and its fourth-round pick in 2009.
Stuart had one goal and one assist in nine regular season games, missed eight games with a broken finger, then returned in time for the playoffs and scored a goal and had six assists in 21 games for the Stanley Cup champions.
The San Jose Sharks took Stuart third overall in the 1998 NHL draft. He also has played for the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames.
