BOSTON The Boston Bruins signed free agent rookie forward Blake Wheeler today.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Wheeler was drafted fifth overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2004, but didn't sign. He then attended the University of Minnesota, where he played the last three seasons.

Last season, he led the Gophers in scoring with 15 goals and 20 assists. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Wheeler finished his college career with 42 goals and 54 assists in 127 games.

He'll attend the Bruins Development Camp, which starts July 8.
