Hawaii man sentenced for failing to pay child support in California

Advertiser Staff

A Hawai'i resident was sentenced in U.S. District Court yesterday to 12 months and a day in prison followed by a three-year term of supervised release for failing to pay child support to three children from a former marriage.

Kenneth Firestone was also ordered to pay $209,434.01 in restitution for missed child support payments to the three children and will also pay missed child support payments to another child from a separate former marriage as part of his term of supervised release.

Both child support orders were issued by courts in California.

U.S. District Attorney Ed Kubo said the court noted Firestone's failure to make child support payments over a 10-year-period and that Firestone had moved from California where the order was initially entered to Hawai'i, thereby delaying the enforcement of any support obligation.

The Los Angeles Region of the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services investigated the case.
