Baseball: Reds to place Harang on DL, recall Bailey
Associated Press
MILWAUKEE — The Cincinnati Reds are expected to place right-hander Aaron Harang on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday because of a strained right forearm, the team said Saturday.
The Reds will recall top prospect Homer Bailey from Triple-A Louisville to start against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Harang's placement on the DL will be retroactive to Wednesday, the day after he gave up five hits, six earned runs and a career-high seven walks in a 7-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The loss dropped Harang to 3-11 with a 4.76 ERA in 19 starts this season after he finished fourth in the National League Cy Young voting in 2007.
Harang would be eligible to come off the DL on July 23.
It will be Bailey's second stint with the Reds this season after he went 0-3 with an 8.76 ERA in three starts between June 6-15. In 16 starts at Louisville, Bailey went 4-7 with a 4.42 ERA.
