RECYCLE FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Help keep your community clean as volunteers gather from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 26 at Pearl City High's parking lot as part of a fundraiser. You can recycle scrap metal, car parts, bicycles and some big-item appliances. Or bring in paper stuffs (newspaper, cardboard), car tires (four per household), cooking oil, batteries, used eyeglasses and hearing aids. But no TVs, microwaves, business computers, paint or hazardous fluids. Questions? Call Rene Mansho, 306-1876, or Kirk Bailey, 778-9985.
FINAL WORD
"I think (the G-8 summit) is a typical example of how environmental protection is still seen as something that you actively do. You create a nice pavilion that is energy efficient. You showcase a car that's better than other cars. But it's not your normal reality. As soon as your normal reality creeps in, you go back to the bad old ways."
Daniel Mittler , political adviser to Greenpeace International, to The Associated Press
