What started out as a traffic stop for speeding early today in Mo'ili'ili ended up being a much bigger criminal case.
The suspect, a Varsity Place resident with 10 prior criminal convictions, is facing charges on two counts of second-degree promoting a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, driving without a license and first-degree burglary following his 1:45 a.m. arrest fronting 1026 Kalo Place.
According to police, an officer attempted to stop a motorist for speeding but the man sped off, stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle was later determined to be stolen. Police located the suspect nearby and learned after the arrest that he had allegedly broken into an apartment to hide from police and broke a window louvre when he left the unit.
Police seized a backpack from the stolen vehicle containing substances believed to be crystal methamphetamine and cocaine.
