The Hawaii Bicycling League will host a Ride of Silence starting at Honolulu Hale at 3 p.m. today to recognize the deaths of David Wayne Aldridge II and other cyclists killed in traffic accidents.
Aldridge, an 18-year-old Wahiawa man, was killed early Tuesday as he was bicycling home from work, struck by a hit-and-run driver. It was the second death of a cyclist on O'ahu roads this year.
The organization asks that participants wear black or red armbands to signal their support of bicycling.
Riders will head east on South King Street, turn around at University Avenue, and then head back on South Beretania Street, said organization events manager John Climaldi.
"We want to bring awareness not only to cyclists but to pedestrians," he said. "We want change to make this a safer place."
The mission of the Hawaii Bicycling League is to promote cycling for health, recreation and transportation through advocacy, education, and events.
