HMSA Foundation approves $419,415 for Isle organizations

The Hawaii Medical Service Association Foundation said it approved 12 grants totaling $419,415 during the second quarter.

The nonprofit foundation is linked with the Hawaii Medical Association. It does not use HMSA member dues to fund the grants. The money comes from investment income earned on its original endowment.

The recipients included:

  • The East Hawaii IPA Foundation. $1,000 for an annual healthcare symposium.

  • The Hawaii State Center for Nursing. $52,000 for a nurse retention pilot project.

  • The Hawai'i Department of Health. $9,249 for the Kalaupapa Van project.

  • The Hilo Medical Center. $100,000 for training and newborn services.

  • Hui Malama i ke Kai Foundation. $24,700 for a capacity building project.

  • Lanakila Pacific. $15,000 for a Meals on Wheels program.

  • The Maui Aids Foundation $10,000 for programs.

  • The Muscular Dystrophy Association. $5,000 for a daycare center awareness program.

  • Na Aikane O Pu'ukohola Heiau, $10,000 for a project teaching healthy eating habits.

  • The Queen's Medical Center. $2,466 for a program promoting careers in biomedicine.

  • The John A. Burns School of Medicine's Telehealth Research Institute received $40,000.

  • West Hawaii Community Health Center. $150,000 for dental equipment and renovations.
