Hawaii unemployed workers get most benefits

Unemployed workers in Hawai'i get about $100 per week more than the national average.
Unemployment benefits are about $404 per week in the Islands, compared to the national average $300-a-week unemployment benefit check.
The U.S. House of Representatives has approved an extra three months of jobless benefits for all unemployed Americans, but its chances of becoming law are slim because of opposition from senators and President Bush.
The legislation would extend unemployment benefits for an additional 13 weeks for workers who exhaust their regular 26 weeks of unemployment benefits.
Hawai'i's latest unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in April, well below the national average of 5 percent.
